ahh, so mike, yer 1 of those american empire believers huh? hmm. i like name & political darkness behind the whole thing, even though i disagree w/ it. id guess u were a hippie in the 60s? lol
i love my country. i love wat it stands 4, how its the leader of the free world, how its the leading member of the UN & how it simply is the greatest nation in history (england comes in and arguably 2nd place lol) |
In your view, as an American citizen, what does America stand for? I'm being serious about the question too, I've never actually learned what Americans think of their own nation, so it would be interesting to hear it from the horse's mouth, so to speak. I mean, I can guess, but I could be off. Don't eat me **cowers** |

I wonder if you have a sufficient attention span to sit through about 45 minutes of a talk given recently by Larry Wilkerson, a retired United States Army Colonel and former chief of staff to United States Secretary of State Colin Powell (i.e., a conservative and a Republican). |
Point of Order your honour. This moves outside the realm of decorum, there's no need for gratuitous shots here, we're all friends. |

| Since this was SUPPOSED to be a light hearted thread and K and I have taken it in a considerably more serious direction, I thought I'd share with you this little story: A noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Nancy Pelosi happened to appear. Ms Pelosi took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease.
'Would you mind telling me, Doctor,' she asked, 'how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?'
'Nothing is easier,' he replied. 'You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If the person hesitates, that puts you on the track.'
'What sort of question?' asked Pelosi.
Well, you might ask, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?'
Pelosi thought a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, 'You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history.'

I see nothing "gratuitous" about it. K has made it clear on more than one occasion that he does not read lengthy posts, especially mine. Fine. I'm giving him someone else saying the same thing, someone who is of my generation but was most certainly not a "hippie." I hope he takes the time to watch it because I agree with just about everything Col. Wilkerson said and much that he did not say but knows to be true. |

| My point is that its not necessary to needle him about it. **shrugs** Just doesn't feel right. As for your other post. There's no way on earth I'm going to touch that one with a ten foot progressive-stick. No way on earth **twitches from laughter** **snort** **broken** way to go, you shattered my brain again. I was just getting used to it sorta maybe working, thanks |

| LOL Seriously, though, what used to be thought of as mental deficiency or disorder have been shown recently to be nothing more than exaggerations of traits we all display in one way or another. If someone's abnormal behaviour isn't so great as to impede their ability to act as a functional member of society, they are 'normal'. So if you can't observe the difference betwee na 'sane' person and in 'insane' person there is no difference. That's what the Rosenhan experiment was all about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosenhan_experiment Love wikipedia for supplying my inline references lol _________________ Sab's Rules For Living: Live beyond the confines your head. | Maths fail: If one million people spoke english, and english speakers were one in a million, that would mean that there were 1,000,000x1,000,000 = a thousand billion = a trillion people in Sri Lanka. Which clearly there aren't, since there are at max 6,900,000 people in the world. _________________ Sab's Rules For Living: Live beyond the confines your head. | You can't just misappropriate popular phrases with a defined meaning and then get defensive when someone misunderstands your statement! _________________ Sab's Rules For Living: Live beyond the confines your head. Give everything you can to everyone you know. No fear, no hesitation, no regrets.
