Subject: What are you listening to? Sat Aug 15, 2009 12:31 am
I don't have an iPod but, then, I don't get out much. I do have over 7,500 songs in my iTunes music folder and they range all over the map. Of course a lot of it is stuff from my younger years (the 60s etc) but by no means all. I have classical (various eras), a LOT of rock (various eras), a lot of techno and industrial stuff (also of various eras), some hard core, some goth, a little bit of country, hardly any jazz, I'm fond of Indian music and some middle eastern music. I have airTunes so I listen to my music not only from my Rokit5 KRKs but transmit it to my based-out 5.1 surround sound that fills my whole studio.
Just wondering, what do you guys listen too? I'm always interested to try new things out.
All you great men of power, you who boast of your feats, politicians and entrepreneurs: Can you safeguard your breath in the night while you sleep, keep your heart beating steady and sure? As you lie in your bed, does the thought haunt your head, that your really rather small? If there's one thing I know in this life, We are beggars all!
All you champions of science, And rulers of men: Can you summon the sun from its sleep? And does the earth seek your council on how fast to spin? Can you shut up the gates of the deep? And don't you know that all things, hang as if by string o'er the darkness, poised to fall? If there's one thing I know in this life, We are beggars all!
All you big-shots do swagger, and strive with conceit. Did you devise that your fray would be fought? If you've been raised in a palace, or live about on the streets, (did you) choose the place or the hour you'd be born? Tell me what can you claim? Not a thing! Not your name! Tell me if you can recall, just one thing, not a gift, in this life? Can you hear what's been said? Can you see now that everything's graced? After all, if there's one thing I know in this life, We are beggars all!

I've had a lot of Green Day, Nickelback, Hedley, Faber Drive, Three Doors Down and the Black Eyed Peas playing lately. Not sure why, just in the mood for random music.

Well, Bobby is a happy change of pace! Certainly more mellow than Shinedown's rages.
Have you guys ever listened to David Fray's interpretations of Bach?
I can hear you saying "boring!" WELL -- maybe. But DAVID IS CUTE (for one thing to catch your attention) and he has a particularly youthful interpretation of the musical thoughts of a brain that has been dust for almost 300 years: Check him out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2I0tQIA_AE

Thought I would take the opportunity on this beautiful nearly-end-of-summer evening to entertain you all with a few MP3s.
You know I listen to a lot of crazy stuff. Mostly I'm working when I have music going and I like music that is mostly up-beat to keep my energy up. When you're and old man like me, 'keeping your energy up', isn't quite the same as when you're young. Note I said "energy" -- I have no problems keeping other things up but that is probably more than you wanted to know.
Anyway, first of all, this one by Apoptygma Berzerk, entitled "Fade to Black." (not to be confused with the Metalica's version, also covered by several groups including Apocalyptica (which is not Apoptygma)).
This is a high-buzz techno-trance anthem that gets my heart pumpn' every time. It's probably over 10 years old, so the first time I heard it I was already around 50. But it instantly made me want to get out my glow sticks, glow in the dark pop beads and pacifier -- and get out on the dance floor with all the other horny, shirtless, and sweaty boys. All these are MP3 files you can download via the link.
OK, now that I have your attention, here is another "music for some crazy guy from another planet" that is somewhat in the same genre -- but not exactly. This is a live version of Underword's "Rez/Cowgirl". Talk about pumpn'. This is the kind of music I like to turn up so loud it makes my ears bleed. All my neighbors would complain to the building manager -- if I weren't the building manager. What REALLY gets me is how they start of singing "everything everything everything everything" but the more you get into the trance of it it begins to sound exactly like he's singing, "lsd lsd lsd lsd." If you listen to the lyrics and 'grock' them, then there can be no doubt this 'conflation' is DELIBERATE:
i'm invisible... and a razor of love... why don't you call me i feel like flying in too... and a razor of love... why don't you call me i feel like flying in too... and a razor of love... and a razor of love...
i scream! i scream! i scream! i scream! i scream! i scream! i scream! i scream! i scream i scream i scream so much you know what i mean this electric stream and my tears in league with the wires and energy it's my machine, this is my beautiful dream
i'm hurting no one! hurting no one! hurting no one! i'm hurting no one!
i want to give you everything i want to give you energy want to give a good thing to give you everything
one final scream of love who couldn't climb this high she looks beautiful like a child a feel of tears and i want to scream you know what i mean
this is hurting no one! and a razor of love!
let go! let go! ooh ooh let go! let go!
yeah! ooh ooh ooh ooh let go! let go!
ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh let go! let go! oh no no no no no no!
Oh yeah. Man if that don't get you're blood pumpn' your dead already. What I hear him saying is something completely different (all these things repeated): everything/lsd/ • im invisible • ive been dead before • and recently lord • why dont you cum and feel like i need you to • i was dream'n • etc.
Now for something completely different but then again not.
THIS, my fine young gentlemen, is my FIRST audio composition. It is entitled "SinQ" (if you're of an inquisitive mind, you can search around and see if you can figure out why). It isn't much, just mucking about with an audio track from a documentary, but I think it is worth the price of admission:

Ok, I'm going to start posting music vids in this thread instead of the 'vids' thread.
Here is a blast from the past:
Robin Hood, Robin Hood here we are again
Living each day outside the law Trying not to do what we did before Country slag with the Bow Bell voice So close to the city we ain't got much choice
Council estates or tower blocks Wherever you live you get the knocks But the people round here they are so nice Stop being naughty take our advice
Hersham boys, Hersham boys Lace up boots and corduroys Hersham boys, Hersham boys They call us the Cockney cowboys
It's down to the hop for the local girls The're not beauty queens but they're our pearls But when you go to bed tonight Don't worry about us, we're alright
Hersham boys, Hersham boys Lace up boots and corduroys Hersham boys, Hersham boys They call us the Cockney cowboys
? ?
That's right guvnor Jack the lad Know what I mean, eh Know what I mean
Hersham boys, Hersham boys Lace up boots and corduroys Hersham boys, Hersham boys They call us the Cockney cowbo

HAHAHA ^^^ now wasn't that fun?
I'm trying to find three videos that just don't seem to be on youtube ANYWHERE ... so if any of you can find them (maybe some other vid server??) that would be great.
Ha! I just listened to the song and here is my transcription of the lyrics (so far as I can make out)
I'm not a fag (He's not a fag) It's not my bag (It's not his bag) But just because its not for me Doesn't mean its not for anybody And now I'm going to tell you what I think
[chorus] There's a little homo in all of us And its just dying to get out
There's a little homo in all of us Like when you're wandering with your friends And you go to give that guy a hug And it lasts a little bit longer A little bit longer than it should
[chorus]
There's a little homo in all of us Doesn't mean you're gona suck on some guys dick But the idea of it doesn't have to make you sick Or get all angry or sad -- or embarrassed There's a little homo in all of us And it's just dying to get out
[chorus] There's a little homo in all of us There's a little homo in all of us Everybody There's a little homo in all of us In you! There's a little homo in all of us In me! Take me home! There's a little homo in all of us There's a little homo in all of us And it's just dying to get out [refrain]!
2: "HOMO" by The Queers
Quote :
The girl's always giving him sh*t 'Cause he like da banana split. She's always calling him names, and He'd like to be doing the same
Life's not fair; are you aware? I can't spell it out like Dr. Frank - who cares?
He's wearing lavender pants. The boy's just dying to dance. The girl's always making him cry, And we're all wondering why.
Life's not fair; are you aware? Are you aware Be proud of who you are and don't be scared.
You're a homo You're a homo You're a homo and everybody knows.
Life's not fair; are you aware? Are you aware Be proud of who you are and don't be scared.
You're a homo You're a homo You're a homo and everybody knows.
[refrain]
3: "I'm the Boy for You" by The Queers
Quote :
Killin time cos you're on my mind And there's nothing I can do Turn away, I hold no sway Cos you don't know it's true A boy like me don't rate a second glance My words I ain't mincin If you need convincin But if you give me half a chance You'll see
Walk around this stupid town Waste my days away I wanna shout Just hear me out This is what I say
A boy like me don't rate a second glance My words I ain't mincin If you need convincin But if you give me half a chance You'll see
I'm the boy for you I'm the boy for you I'm the boy for you I'm the boy for you
I know they talk about us I know just what they say Someday they'll talk about us In a brand new way
How bout tonight I'll hold you tight Watch the stars go by Make a wish Get a kiss Give this love a try
I'm the boy for you I'm the boy for you I'm the boy for you I'm the boy for you
Yes its true I'm the boy for you Yes its true I'm the boy for you Yes its true I'm the boy for you Yes its true I'm the boy for you
I've edited this post several times and have rearranged the order of the songs because -- since we can't find any vids of them -- I'm going to make one MP3 with all 3 songs on it that you guys can down load.

I was HOPING there would be a way to EMBED an mp3 file here but trying the bbcode tags [mp3] and [embed] -- neither worked. If anyone knows of a way to embed them, let me know.
SO, if you want to HEAR the songs posted above, you have to CLICK HERE (and or download the file).

1967 Chart Topper
Janis Ian She was only 15 years old when she wrote and recorded this. SOCIETY'S CHILD
Come to my door, baby, Face is clean and shining black as night. My mother went to answer you know That you looked so fine. Now I could understand your tears and your shame, She called you "boy" instead of your name. When she wouldn't let you inside, When she turned and said "But honey, he's not our kind." She says I can't see you any more, baby, Can't see you anymore. Walk me down to school, baby, Everybody's acting deaf and dumb. Until they turn and say, "Why don't you stick to your own kind." My teachers all laugh, the smirking stares, Cutting deep down in our affairs. Preachers of equality, Think they believe it, then why won't they just let us be? They say I can't see you anymore baby, Can't see you anymore. One of these days I'm gonna stop my listening Gonna raise my head up high. One of these days I'm gonna raise up my glistening wings and fly. But that day will have to wait for a while. Baby I'm only society's child. When we're older things may change, But for now this is the way, they must remain. I say I can't see you anymore baby, Can't see you anymore. No, I don't want to see you anymore, baby.
_______________________________
The rest of the album is just as good if not better. In one song she sings [excerpts]: So go to bed at ten, let your mama tuck you in, And turn on your Mickey Mouse night-light. Then you make it with your mind.
<snip>
Don't talk about sex, you might get hexed, God'll punish you for your dirty mind. Now, there's no escapin' and you'd enjoy a rapin' Just to find out the facts of life. Mama says, "Maintain your pride."

Midnight Oil THE DEAD HEART
We dont serve your country Dont serve your king Know your custom dont speak your tongue White man came took everyone
We dont serve your country Dont serve your king White man listen to the songs we sing White man came took everything
We carry in our hearts the true country And that cannot be stolen We follow in the steps of our ancestry And that cannot be broken
We dont need protection Dont need your land Keep your promise on where we stand We will listen well understand
Mining companies, pastoral companies Uranium companies Collected companies Got more right than people Got more say than people
Forty thousand years can make a difference to the state of things The dead heart lives here

Apoptygma Berzerk FADE TO BLACK
As the walls are closing in And the colors fade to black And my eyes are falling fast and deep into me And I follow the tracks that lead me down And I never follow what's right And they wonder sometimes when they see all the Sadness and pain the truth brings to light
'Cause I can't see no reason What is blind cannot see 'Cause I want what is pleasin' All I take should be free What I rob from the innocent ones What I'd steal from the womb
If I cried me a river of all my confessions Would I drown in my shallow regret As the walls are closing in And the colors fade to black And the night is falling fast and deep into the sea And in darkness all that I can see The frightened and the weak Are forced to cling to mistakes they know nothing of At mercy are the meek
'Cause I can't see no reason What is blind cannot see 'Cause I want what is pleasin' All I take should be free What I rob from the innocent ones What I'd steal from the womb

Stone Temple Pilots (covering the Beatles') REVOLUTION
You say you want a revolution Well, you know We all want to change the world You tell me that it's evolution Well, you know We all want to change the world But when you talk about destruction Don't you know that you can count me out Don't you know it's gonna be all right all right, all right
You say you got a real solution Well, you know We'd all love to see the plan You ask me for a contribution Well, you know We're doing what we can But when you want money for people with minds that hate All I can tell is brother you have to wait Don't you know it's gonna be all right all right, all right Ah
ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...
You say you'll change the constitution Well, you know We all want to change your head You tell me it's the institution Well, you know You better free you mind instead But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow Don't you know it's gonna be all right all right, all right all right, all right, all right all right, all right, all right
