Thanks for posting that, Alex. I did see the film when it was new but had forgotten that part of it.
As for 'e' -- painter wonders if he knows what a 'philistine' is.
By the way, guys, be sure to watch the vids I posted in the 'youtube vids' thread. Especially the first one w/ Bruce Webber material. I think you'll enjoy them

A philistine is someone who lacks an appreciation for art, beauty and culture; who gives up on an excellent movie for arbitrary reasons. E.G. YOU for giving up on The Talented Mr Ripley because Matt Damon in glasses was too weird for you (also, wtf is that excuse? He's an ACTOR, it's a COSTUME. That's kinda how this shit works lol)

But Ephram isn't a Philistine at all, Alex. At least not when it comes to music. Film, perhaps. But can one be a Philistine in relation to one art form and not another?

Sure! I think... actually yeah, because a philistine is one who clings to the standard social values in art, assumes value through mass appeal, and rejects things which challenge them.

Ecii, love it!
I've been listening to Holcombe Waller recently, his music is just so... WOW. He's got this androgynous voice, and sings these epic acoustic-y chilled folk songs, and you can download the in-progress version of his upcoming second album, The Winter Songs, on his bandcamp site (best website ever btw if you're making or listening to music, loads of free songs and great artists)
