Oh, and I agree with ya Kell, it probably is. I so hope that I didn't quote that wrong when I said that he was wrioting or directing a play. I thought I read that in the New Topic about things that we are doing over the summer. If not, sorry, lol. either way though, Alex is still a sexy dude, play stuff or not. Oh, and I figure I can say that in here, cuz maybe then he would post a few pics of himself, hehe.

The play: yeah, I'm part of a semi-professional theatre group who is devising (means 'co-writing through improvisation') a play to perform at the edinburgh fringe festival 5th to 14th of august this summer. At the moment, the play is about a writer who has been commissioned to write a novel, but can't start it because he wants to break all the literary conventions and be fresh, but every idea he has is too derivative. So he goes out into the real world and starts breaking social conventions, as he gets fixated on the idea of breaking rules. Eg he talks to people on the tube, he smokes in the no smoking area, lies down on the street and goes to sleep... Anyway, halfway through the play it stops and we have an argument onstage as ourselves, about whether the play is going well. Then we keep going and make it much more crazy. Finally it ends with everyone breaking the rules, not just the writer, and some people invade his flat while he's trying to write his book - his two worlds collide, essentially. Then we end it without taking a bow, just stop and pack up. Tell the audience they can go or whatever, and we are going to the pub. So there's the three layers: the writer who can't write, the rule-breaking, and us stepping out of role and acting as ourselves in the middle of the play. The effect we want to create is like we have taken a rehearsal of the play and turned that into the play itself. Weird but it will be very funny and very interesting. The writer is actually based on us, we had this epic meeting trying to intent a plot that was original and broke the theatrical conventions, so we created the writer, who was trying to intent a plot that was original and broke literary conventions lol.
So there, in a nutshell, is my play so far. It may change, I'll keep you up to date lol.

I really like that!!! You know you are going to lose a LOT of people if they aren't paying attention.. but the fringe fest should have a good audience that would 'get it'.

Clearly, you aren't really going to be playing yourselves out right as if you are going through a rehearsal. Are you going to spice it up.. like have the Alex 'character' be really queer or something in a really random way. I can totally imagine a sub plot where there is an Alex playing an Allen, who is a dashing straight guy who is obscenely in love with some blond, busty girl. Allen would be suave and careful and such a powerful character... but in that moment where the scene moves to Alex coming out of character, he goes totally gay! It would have a subtext of how gay people are completely obscured if they want to be and are able to hide themselves in plain sight... and it would all fit within the mellow framework of a comedy. I love it! LOL... I feel like writing a play now.

Thanks. It's weird creating a play though, today we spent 1 and a 1/2 hours pretending to be primary school children, to get a different perspective on social rules and conventions. Once we spent two weeks being insane cavemen trying to build a casino. Theatre is awesome lol!
I think you should write a play. Everyone has at least three good stories in their head, and plays are easier to write quickly than prose. I would love to read it if you did write a play. And if you do I'll email you the script for the play we're writing (once we've GOT a script, obviously).
