| Logan Lerman is gorgeous and the film is excellent, I really ought to read the book.
On an unrelated note, I'm packing up my stuff and preparing to move back (hopefully temporarily) to my hometown. My relationship is quietly devolving and I suspect will end soon, which I'm feeling pretty ambivalent about. All in all, it's a pretty weird time in my life. Expect to hear from me a lot more if I end up staying at home with my parents!

| Lexy, should we be happy about you being here more often or sad about your relationship? | |

| E: Happy, I think. Kell: we've come to the realisation that we're not particularly compatible, our relationship has a lot of things missing and while individually they could be worked on, when you add them all up it's hard to see what exactly we'd be working towards and whether it would be worth it. | |

| In other news, our cunt of a Prime Minister here in the UK is trying to make every ISP in the UK set up an automatically on web filter with the pathetically false intention of 'protecting the children' from online porn. The filter he wants to use is owned by a Chinese company, Huawei, who have been criticised in the past by numerous human rights and civil liberties organisations (and the PM's own political party) for their invasive tactics and overzealous censorship; the filter also blocks 'web forums', 'social media' and 'alcohol' among other things by default. I'm torn between rage at the fact that this kind of discussion is even happening let alone that it might actually be pushed through the courts, fear for my personal liberties in an authoritarian state that seems to be trying to play catch-up with China and North Korea and most of all shock that something like 90% of people I've spoken to about it seem either unconcerned or in favour of the damn thing - or worst of all, they don't even know about it because they've been too busy obsessing over the pregnancy of some benefit-scrounging, democracy-undermining royal fucks. Bad mood central over here. | |

Alas, it seems that the same kind of thing is being discussed here in Canada. Once again, no one seems to be bothered about it, though ours is in the very, very early stages, and by that it's simply some backbench lunatic musing about how to be less tethered to reality. I would imagine once people start realising how widespread the censorship would be, there'll be more public outcry Alex. I know last year our 'public safety' minister (how do you like that for Orwellian abuses of the English Language?) attempted to pass a law that would allow him to view all our internet and phone data information, so anything we viewed would be available for him to peruse. That ended badly, and the poor soul has now resigned in what many of us hope is disgrace, but probably isn't because he's incapable of shame. Chin up, people will start raging, eventually a Conservative in Parliament will say something stupid and public opinion will turn against this insane censorship idea you all are facing.

| Here in SL there was once a motion in parliament to put forward a bill to "ban mini skirts" as it "undermines and devalues the integrity of females" or some such. About a week after the initial debate of the bill, the Minister who put forward the bill was arrested in a brothel.
So yeah, stupid things like this tend to backfire on itself sooner or later. Have hope.

So yeah, stupid things like this tend to backfire on itself sooner or later. Have hope. That is a brilliant story E. I know there's no way in hell this could ever happen, but the fact that the PM even thought it was worth suggesting is ridiculous and the fact that so many people didn't immediately see the glaring threat it presented to freedom of speech and democracy is seriously worrying all the same.

| We live in societies full of sheeple and morons. Did you really expect better from people who probably couldn't even tell you the date of the next election, never mind the effects of legislation they only have a dim awareness of even existing? | |

Sadly I am cursed with an eternal and unquenchable belief that one day the human spirit will overcome and the masses will achieve consciousness and overthrow their oppressors.

| It's important to fight these regressive, idiotic assaults on personal freedom, however weak and pathetic they might be. The reason we no longer live in a society where children are stoned for talking back and Jews are gassed is because generations of people have struggled tirelessly to enshrine in law those rights and freedoms that every person in a civilised society deserves to have, to create a more democratic and tolerant and rational world and to be democratic and tolerant and rational in their everyday lives. It is not only our duty but our greatest achievement when we continue that work in fighting back the forces of ignorance and oppression, even when that oppression disguises itself as a restriction of porn access in order to "protect the children". Also, I know what "hebe" means | |
