that's exactly what i was talking about with my brother how when we start to live on our own, we have to make a different home, someplace that is not with my parents and it IS a bit freaky. but, on the other hand, i can bring boys over and what not we definitely will get accustomed to calling that place away from our family home until we have a family of our own, but, that is quite a long way off for me lol.

| my roommates here at school are pigs so one grownup tip i've picked up is how fucking awful it must be for parents to CONSTANTLY tell their kids to clean up after they eat & they just fucking DON'T. | |

| I haven't lined with my parents for almost five years now. I've been out of university for a year and a half and I've had several proper jobs. By your criteria that makes me the most adult of us all... cool. | |

| You don't need a car to be living on your own. | |

| i never said u needed a car to live on ur own. but in many places, having a car can be seen as one of the biggest & most important aspects of being a grownup because a) it gets u places without having to ask people all the time or walk & b) owning & taking care of a vehicle is a very big responsibility | |

| That might be the case in America but over here walking is not only legal, it's encouraged. I think we talked about the culture difference around cars when one of your story characters was talking about getting a car, but to reiterate, it's a lot easier to get around in England on foot, at least in big cities like Sheffield. When feet fail, public transport in the the UK is usually pretty good. While I would totally love to have a car if I could afford it, I don't really need one.
Since we're talking about maturity, I think it's interesting to note you said that having a car means you don't have to 'ask people all the time' to get you places. I guess by 'people' you mean parents? While the car may be a physical manifestation of independence, a more significant mark of maturity is losing that attitude of asking an adult for help when you need something you can't get by yourself.

| noah was pressured into getting a car by his friends, who, like many teenagers at least in america, think that owning a car is one of if not the coolest thing ever, even though noah is well aware that its not & that its silly for them to think such a thing is so important, especially at their age.
actually, i had friends in mind when i meant people. i also had in mind people older than us. it can be an inconvenience to anyone when ur always asking ur friends or roommates to take to get groceries, hang out with other people, visit ur significant other, run errands, etc. if u have the money to get transportation for urself, including public.

| Lots of big things happening to me lately. Some good, some much less good, but all of them are emotionally draining me away, so I apologize if I seem a little out of it these days.
I've withdrawn from the UBC teacher education program practicum, on the grounds that my practicum was one of the worst any of my advisors had ever seen. This won't affect my coursework, but it will mean I have to try again next year or the year after, if I so chose.
Unless I don't, as I may decide to run for Parliament instead, there's an open seat where I live that no one seems interested in running for right now, and I'm as good a candidate as any with my background. This is something that really terrifies me, but I'm also confident in my understanding of the issues and even for some issues that people aren't paying attention to yet.
I'm also starting to work seriously on my book, which is tentatively set to be published on May 10th and is based on the queer athletics research I conducted last year. I suddenly have a lot of spare time to make it happen, and I'm proud of my work. I hope that other people are as interested in the research as I have been in conducting it, and that my efforts are rewarded somewhat.
On a related note to my book, I'm working with my research advisor to get myself invited to several teaching and education conferences throughout the region. These are helpful for networking and because I do still wish to teach, so I am hopefully going to learn a lot and potentially spark more interest in my research topic. Much to my delight, my advisor has recommended that for the May 3rd conference, I apply as a speaker instead of just a delegate. I'm hugely excited that I might actually be presenting my research, and even more excited that I'll be presenting everything just a week before I'm set to start printing my book for real.

| If anything I'd say the last one is the best one you could get. The other things reflect on you in some way but someone not hooking up with you because they're straight really has nothing to do with you

| I have to agree, and it's worse because you know they're hiding something about you and they'd rather just not tell you. It's better to just tell someone when you're not interested in them, at least then you're not lying... | |
